Internships

We strongly recommend performing one or more internships as part of your studies. You may receive credit as one of the guided specialization electives or on your own without receiving credit. Talk to your adviser for suggestions on how to find an internship and get the most benefit from the experience. Take advantage of the services offered through Charlie Ricker at the Career Center to research prospective companies, develop your resume, and practice interviewing.

Contact Dan Porter in advance to get approval for your internship plan. The proposal will then be passed on to the School of Music's Internship Coordinator, Dr. Gerrity for approval before you register. See the syllabus for more information. For each unit of the MMP494 Internship class (1–6 units, may be repeated up to 6 credits) a minimum of four hours is expected to put in as an intern over a sixteen week period, for a total of 64 hours. Keep a daily journal of time and activities and submit a final reflection report. In your report include an example of a piece of work you've done there and a picture of yourself on the job. Please email Mr. Porter a copy of the same picture and/or other pictures of yourself for our archive for use in the MMP program's annual report, website, etc. We like action shots where we can see your face.

When you are finished we will send your supervisor a form to evaluate your performance. You can see what it looks like to get an idea of the sorts of qualities your supervisor will be asked to evaluate.
